Presided over by snow-covered mountains, the Kathmandu Valley is surrounded by verdant agricultural hills scattered with traditional villages and brick houses, rich in ancient holy temples and shrines used by both Buddhists and Hindu worshippers reflecting a great wealth of culture and tradition. Most of the country’s ethnic groups are represented in the Valley, particularly in Kathmandu itself, but it is the Newars who are the original inhabitants responsible for development and the splendid art and architecture in the cities.Rest of the day free at leisure. Day 02
Visit Pashupatinath + Swayambunath
After breakfast, proceed for sightseeing tour of Pashupatinath & Swayambunath. Pashupatinath Temple, with its astonishing architectural beauty, stands as a symbol of faith, religion, culture and tradition. Regarded as the most sacred temple of Hindu Lord Shiva in the world, Pashupatinath Temple’s existence dates back to 400 A.D. The richly-ornamented pagoda houses the sacred linga or phallic symbol of Lord Shiva. Thousands of pilgrims from all over the world come to pay homage to this temple, that is also known as ‘The Temple of Living Beings’. Swayambhunath Stupa or The Stupa with golden spire is a 5th-century pagoda in Nepal. Typical of other monasteries, the Swayambhunath Stupa is adorned with fluttering prayer flags. This UNESCO Heritage site is situated on a hill that overlooks the Kathmandu valley and can be clearly seen from any part of Kathmandu on a clear weather day. In fact it can be safely adjudged as the most recognizable monument in entire Kathmandu. O/N in hotel.
Day 03
Visit Boudhanath + Patan
After breakfast, proceed for sightseeing tour of Boudhanath & Patan. Boudhanath Stupa is one of the largest Stupas in Nepal and the holiest Buddhist site in Kathmandu. Boudhanath is located approximately 15 minutes by taxi from Thamel, the main tourist district of Kathmandu. The eyes on the Stupa are a symbol commonly associated with Nepal and can be seen throughout the region. The squiggle between the eyes is the Sanskrit numeral one, symbolizing the unity of all things. The canopy has thirteen stages and the white mound towers thirty-six meters overhead. The shape of the steps the spherical dome is built on represents a Tibetan mandala, a type of spiritual painting that is found in Buddhist and Hindu traditions. Patan is an ancient fortified town, situated about 120 kms. north west of Ahmedabad. This ancient town is situated on the banks of the sacred Saraswati river. This town was founded by the Vanraj Chavda in 746 A D and enjoyed a privileged status of the capital of Gujarat, for about 600 years. The urban structure of the town is made of several places known as ‘Pols’. ‘Pols’ are densely populated and are like a maze with winding narrow lanes. Some of them contain old beautiful houses with carved wooden facades in traditional Gujarati architectural style. O/N in hotel.
